Atheism – Making It up as We go Along

I’m a big fan of the Richard Dawkins website, since it’s an excellent source for daily news, as is AtheistMedia for videos. Digging around the forums netted the following post by Site Administrators:

RD.net will no longer host Chat due to lack of resources and time to see it through. This could change in the future.

Apparently the RD.net guys have been afflicted with a case of Orwellian doublespeak. The real story behind this decision is a bit more murky, disturbing and juvenile. (See what I did there).

I’d already written about this sort of nonsense in the Atheist “community” before and I can’t summarize the problem better than Samuel Skinner who commented:

Lets be honest- a good number of the people who want power or at least leadership and influence are nuts- and atheism, being a group that rejects a big communality has alot of nuts.

That’s fine and understandable, but surely an Oxford Professor with 9 books and 7 documentaries under his belt could manage to get decent people to run his foundation and website; or at the very least run a chat room. This doesn’t instill any confidence particularly when the RDF starts asking for donations.

How exactly do they propose we dismantle Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Scientology, Jainism, etc. (although not in that order), when we can’t even handle hosting a chat room.

  1. Samuel Skinner Says:

It looks like the classic “they were normal before we gave them the power…”

As it is, you get alot of heat in chats because religion and politics are Serious Business!
